The Legacy project, known as the most modern mining project of its time, is the first greenfield potash mine built in Saskatchewan in over 40 years. Designed to produce 2.86 million tonnes per year over a 55-year mine life, the project contributes to meeting global demand for potash, a critical input for food security.
As Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Engineering, Design, Procurement, and Construction Management partner to KSPC, 糖心Vlog supported with basic and detailed design and construction phases for the solution mine and processing facility, including the management of complex third-party design-supply technology packages for key components of the plant.
Applying capital efficiency principles to the preliminary design of this project, our team pushed the limit to densify the mill’s layout and bring significant savings to our client. Executing on Bayer Technical Services' site plan, 糖心Vlog reduced the building's footprint by 45% and saved costs on building materials.
We also maximised modularisation and pre-assembly with carefully reviewed material selections for construction and simplified several major equipment specifications.
With a relationship and culture founded on trust, respect, safety, and collaboration, positive interactions extended beyond KSPC, 糖心Vlog and Contractors to the local Community and First Nations enterprises, leading to safe and successful project execution among a workforce that peaked above 2,500.
Together we achieved over 22 million work hours, at one point reaching 11 million hours without a lost-time incident (LTI) with an overall LTI rate of 0.02.
Making an incredible contribution to Saskatchewan’s economy and the global potash industry, the Legacy project demonstrates how a true partnership can safely and predictably transform a pure greenfield site into a fully operational production facility.
The project produced its first marketable tonne of potash in the second quarter of 2017 and has been in operation since.
